European Union (EU) & TÜBİTAK
Projects

Our projects, supported at national and international levels, illuminate future technologies at SOCAR R&D. We collaborate with top institutions and organizations in the R&D field and continuously enhance our product and service portfolio through these robust partnerships.

CO2FOKUS

The CO2Focus Project aims to produce dimethyl ether (DME), a low-emission diesel fuel, from carbon dioxide gas using innovative catalysts. This project, supported by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Funding Programme, involves the development of a reactor and catalysts using 3D printing technologies and producing the necessary hydrogen through solid oxide cell technology.

As a member of the CO2Focus project consortium, which includes 15 international partners from countries such as Spain, Greece, Italy, and France, we take pride in our contribution to this groundbreaking initiative. Our collaboration with these partners has enabled us to gain valuable R&D experience, and we aim to expand our partnerships into developing new projects.

CARMOF

We are a part of the CARMOF Project consortium, which aims to develop cost-effective and energy-efficient methods to capture carbon dioxide from flue gases and prevent it from being released into the atmosphere. To achieve this goal, we are using innovative materials and techniques.

As part of the project, we are developing new structures for CO2 capture using 3D printing technology. These structures are made with porous organic metal frames (MOFs) and carbon nanotubes to capture CO2 from flue gases. We also optimize and test vacuum and temperature oscillation adsorption technologies in industrial conditions.

Circular TwAIn

We are part of the consortium of Circular TwAIn, a digital project funded by the European Union Horizon Europe. Our contribution to the project involves designing a digital tool supported by artificial intelligence to achieve high energy savings in chemical production facilities at the Petkim ethylene plant.

The Circular TwAIn Project's objective is to leverage artificial intelligence to reduce the carbon footprint in chemical production processes while maximizing energy efficiency.

LOUISE

One of our projects, LOUISE, is funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Funding Programme. It aims to develop a chemical process and system to obtain pure energy and CO2 from solid waste through the chemical cycle. We lead the pre-commercial demonstration of an innovative technique that extracts energy and pure CO2 gas to add value to industrial solid waste.

NEFERTITI

The NEFERTITI Project, which received funding in December 2020, is being led by us since 2021 in partnership with ten international companies from various countries, including Spain, China, USA, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Southern Cyprus. As the sole Turkish firm in the project consortium, we are committed to our work and have made significant progress in renewable energy.

The project's primary goal is to convert carbon dioxide and water into valuable chemicals using renewable energy sources concentrated through the artificial photosynthetic process. By utilizing this method, we aim to produce valuable chemicals like ethanol and isopropanol while exclusively relying on renewable energy sources.

SAYEM FAZ 2

We have submitted a project proposal called "Development of Domestic and Original Design, Material, Production and Bench Technologies for 3D-Additive Manufacturing" to TÜBİTAK-SAYEM (Industrial Innovation Network Mechanisms). After careful evaluation, our project has been deemed eligible for support by all the appointed referees following the implementation principles of the TÜBİTAK Innovation Support Programme. Our project consortium comprises 23 renowned companies and universities from Türkiye and worldwide that are experts in their respective fields.

BIOLINK

We are working on the BIOLINK project, supported by the TÜBİTAK 1509 - International Industrial R&D Projects Grant Program. Our objective is to develop new materials for packaging in collaboration with a Spanish company named Los Masos, which specializes in producing fruits and vegetables. The project focuses on creating bio-based and biodegradable plastic containers through a cyclical process using synthesized raw materials. Our consortium consists of Celal Bayar University and Istanbul Technical University from Türkiye, along with the Spanish manufacturer.

4D HYDROGEN

As of June 1, 2023, our "4D HYDROGEN" project, funded by "1509 - TUBITAK International Industry R&D Projects Support Program" and under the coordination of ASPİLSAN based in Turkey, has officially commenced. In collaboration with our seven national and international project partners, our ongoing project seeks to incorporate green hydrogen, generated from renewable energy sources, into the ammonia production process. Additionally, we are striving to reduce the carbon footprint of the ammonia production process by integrating renewable energy and green hydrogen. The versatility of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and its potential as an efficient fuel for maritime transportation significantly enhance our efforts toward achieving our energy transformation and net-zero carbon emission objectives.
